Safeguarding Curriculum - Online Safety

Children are on the front lines of a digital revolution. Devices, social networks, and media are changing childhood in radical ways. We all want of our pupils to grow up healthy and happy as the world accelerates around them. To meet this, our online safety curriculum is based on 2BeSafe from Purple Mash. This is supplemented by resources from the National College and Pol-Ed.

What is 2BeSafe?

2BeSafe is an online safety scheme of work, published by 2Simple, to meet the guidance set out within the Department for Education’s - Education for a Connected World. The Education for a Connected World framework outlines eight key areas which seek to equip children and young people for digital life and the digital world. 2Simple’s 2BeSafe offers a comprehensive coverage of these requirements for primary schools starting from Reception up to Year 6.

UKCIS Education for a Connected World

This ensures that we have embedded online safety curriculum and that our teaching is centred around giving pupils the knowledge, understanding and skills to use information and communication technology creatively and purposefully in order they are aware of the risks and rewards that the online world can bring.

The Frizinghall Computing and Online Safety Curriculum is underpinned by the whole school SCARF values (Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship). During Induction Week, children and parents sign the acceptable use agreement in order to set clear expectations for the year. The whole school takes part in Safer Internet Day each year.

Online Safety Long Term Plan 2025-2026

The school works annually towards becoming a National Online Safety Certified School and all parents can access this service enabling them to take online safety courses, access online safety guidance and watch online safety webinars. Wake Up Wednesday Guides are sent to parents, staff and governors weekly. Wake Up Wednesday guides, primarily from The National College, focus on empowering parents, carers, and educators with knowledge and resources to support children's safety and well-being in the digital age. These resources cover topics like online safety, mental health and wellbeing, and climate change and sustainability. They aim to equip adults with the information and tools to have informed, age-appropriate conversations with children about these crucial areas.

At Frizinghall Primary School, we are committed to ensuring our pupils are safe, empowered, and supported in the digital world. To help us achieve this, we are proud to use the Safer Schools England app—a comprehensive digital safeguarding platform designed for our entire school community.

Why We Use Safer Schools

The online landscape changes rapidly, and it can be challenging for parents and teachers to keep up with the latest apps, games, and trends. Developed in partnership with Zurich Municipal and the Ineqe Safeguarding Group, this app provides us with a "one-stop shop" for safeguarding information, ensuring that age-appropriate advice is always available at your fingertips.

Key Benefits for Our Community

  • For Parents & Carers: Access expert guidance on popular social media platforms, gaming safety, and setting up parental controls. You will also receive real-time push notifications about emerging online risks and trends.

  • For Pupils: Children have access to age-appropriate resources that teach them how to navigate the internet safely, how to identify bullying, and where to go if they feel worried.

  • For Staff: Our team uses the app for CPD-certified training and to access the latest safeguarding news, helping us maintain the highest standards of care within the classroom.

How to Get Started

The app is free to download on the App Store and Google Play. To log in, you will need our school-specific entry code or QR code, these are available from the Parent Partnership Team.

School equipment is protected by Visigo, anti-virus software and Smooth Wall for our monitoring and filtering service. These ensure that children and adults using equipment in school are safe and that usage is monitored.
